Mary Shelley (1797–1851) was only 20 years old when Frankenstein was published. Unfortunately, her life was marred by tragedy. Her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley , died from a drowning accident at the age of 29 years old. Their first child, a girl, was born prematurely and died. Their next two children, a girl and a boy also died before the birth of their last surviving son. Mary died from a brain tumor at age 53.
Nonetheless, she wrote 6 novels and a slew of short stories. Frankenstein being the most famous of her literary work. 1
It is highly recommended to hear a narration of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
